Movie Night with Girls: Does the genre matter and if so, what goes?

In my experience, it really depends. If you have some insight into the personality of the girl, it can really affect your choice. And of course your intentions are important.

If you're just trying to hook up and need some white noise, I usually go for slower paced movies that aren't distracting. Light comedies also work well because you're not really missing much by engaging in other activities. Though, if the will is there... it doesn't really matter what you put on.

I personally have a liking to horror movies. They give you an excuse to cuddle and comfort the girl you have over. This can easily lead to something else. The girl has to enjoy the genre, though, or this approach is useless. This can also work in cases where the horror film does not frighten the girl. In which case laughter often ensues through absurdity, which in turn creates a good time.

I also enjoy watching good quality rom-coms, such as 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, Crazy, Stupid, Love because they often create a feel-good atmosphere that is conducive to romance (however you wish to define this term).

I would stay away from action movies, as most women I have been with don't seem to appreciate it.

Most important: Assess the situation, the girl, and evaluate the movies based on your intentions. There is no one size fits all answer to what genre/film to play.
