Go out in a social setting and learn from experience
[–]D1opare0 points 12 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link
I'm a bit shy and not comfortable with any social setting. Should I force myself?
[–]atlantic68 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yes? talk to girls. worse case scenario you fail and end up back wherr you were before. a good rule is if you ever get asked to do anything social always say yes..don't make excuses. even if it is a party you won't know many people do it..that's how you spread your network

If you ever want to meet anyone, new friends and new girls, you are going to have to go out and be social. Maybe you dont like the stereotypical social setting, thats fine. If you go places and do things you like, you are bound to meet someone similar to you in those places.
ie- if you fucking hate clubs and loud music for instance dont go to them, you will not be happy in the environment and the girls you meet will like that kind of environment.

Yeah, but at the same time, make sure that you dislike clubs because you truly, truly, truly dislike clubs. Not because you dislike pushing your comfort zone. Otherwise, you will seriously be limiting your success (and overall life experiences in general, interesting shit happens on a night out) with respect to pickup.
Lots of people avoid bars and clubs because "ugh loud venues suck it's not my jam". 95% of the time, they avoid bars and clubs because they haven't learned to be comfortable, not because they truly dislike bars and clubs.
Say I don't like a club. If I had the ability to have fun and dance and let loose and pickup girls in a club, you better bet your ass I'll suddenly start liking clubs.

well i wrote that assuming op was more self aware of his likes and dislikes , which i guess it is likely he is not.

Most people aren't.

No. Don't force yourself. Stay in your god damn house and never go out. Can you detect the sarcasm yet? Jesus Christ.
Similar to most board/drinking games. You can spend forever being taught the rules and what not, but nothing beats what you learn in the first 5 minutes of playing.

Stop looking for excuses. Books can be fantastic tools, but they are merely tools. If you learn from them, great. If you don't learn from them, then you learned what doesn't work. You still learn.
Stop looking for a "best" way, because you're turning that into an excuse. "This isn't the best way to learn, so I'm not going to waste time doing it". Nonsense. You're not even doing it in the first place. Just do it.
But to answer your question, go out and practice. Real-life experience is the best way to learn pick up. Books can only show you the path. Experience shows you how to walk the path.

I see your point. But I think I know my excuse is already: AA. did you expiernce it by yourself?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yeah
[–]D1opare1 points 12 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
how did you deal with it ?
[–]money666 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you truly want to get good then look online for wingmen. They help with AA.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
that's the trick. you don't.

I still go through approach anxiety to some extent because im still new to pick up. I've had recent success though so my AA is pretty negligible now. Sure I get nervous sometimes, I'm sure some other pick up artists do to at times. It's not possible to be in your 100% most confident state all the time.
Most approach anxiety comes from outcome dependency and putting pressure on yourself to number/kiss/fuck close. Just go In to your approaches with no plan other than just talking to the girl and seeing what she's about. If you make a good connection with her you can ask for her number and it should feel pretty natural. If the convo is awkward you can just get out of there and say, "nice meeting you". There is so much less pressure than going up cold and being like, "oh your gorgeous, I'd like to take you on a date/get your number" the only way that will work is if she finds you insanely attractive. If you haven't established a connection with her she will more than likely find it creepy that a random guy just came up and asked for her number. I hope that clears it up a bit.
"The Game" is just a damn entertaining book to read. Not a whole lot should be taken from it outside of the fact that ANYBODY can become good with women.
If nothing else it will inspire you to seek out social adventures where you will learn the old fashioned way(best way)

"Books aren't meant for me"?
Try audio books. Or get professional help if you seriously feel like your attention span disables you to the extent that you can't read. Seriously -- imagine having to learn everything from experience rather than having a map to guide you. You will literally waste years of your life compared to a few hours spent devouring a worthwhile text.
Read one book that seems to fit your personality. Then go practice in the field (i.e. real life). Take notes. Re-read your notes. Go practice. Take notes. Learn. Over time, you'll start to see trends in your notes and from experience. Maybe you'll find a different book or school of thought more useful. Read or listen to that book. Then go practice in the field. Take notes. Etc.
Some books are a scam. Some experiences will mislead you if you don't have any way of seeing the world aside from your typical approach (that clearly isn't working yet). Find reliable sources rather than throwing away books as if knowledge was evil or that all the useful information from '90/'80 doesn't exist because your attention span is deficient. Improve your attention span and everything else will improve as well.

The best way is to just approach and see what happens. You may be successful, you may not be. In the end you're taking that step forward to become better at game. Reading and studying about game is great. You learn a lot but if that's all you do you're going to be stuck going in circles, never moving forward. You could read EVERYTHING about seduction but if you don't make that first move it'll be a waste of time. You'll be so nervous that all that knowledge of seduction that you've been reading will go out the window. So the best thing to do is take a break from reading seduction and resume AFTER YOU APPROACH.
