Recently I posted a comment describing learning game as a ‘hobby’ – this started a debate as someone suggested that this isn’t a hobby: samnadine - "Don't take this as a hobby, get real hobbies."

I responded with this: "…I chose to call it a hobby because it's how I spend some of my spare time and I get pleasure from it…"

I’ve since changed my view to agree with ‘samnadine’ partly due to this: http://sashapua.com/how-to-defeat-approach-anxiety-forever/

I’ll reach a compromise, the reading, the forum posts, the voice recorder app downloads! – there is a hobby element to this. But actually going out and practicing should not be thought of as a hobby. To go out with the aim to ‘practice your hobby’, that is to ‘practice game’, is a really bad mind set. This is for the reasons outlined in that Day game AA post – for those who didn’t read it, you basically put too much pressure on yourself in small time frames that you set aside to practice which only makes AA worse, plus if a HB10 walks past outside your gaming hours you give yourself an excuse not to approach. But also, some fairly basic advice is to have value (be an interesting guy) and not look desperate (don’t look like you’re only out to pull). Using game as a hobby is destructive to both these facets – i.e. this is not an interesting hobby you can talk to women about and no matter what tricks you use to appear nonchalant, it’s not congruent with why you’re really out so inherently you are behaving somewhat desperate!

I’ll end by borrowing from how ‘samnadine’ frames game… "Meeting and fucking women can't be your hobby. It's like saying "Food is my hobby"… you can still have fun without taking it as a hobby. You enjoy eating a good meal without taking "eating food" as a hobby." ...Yeah OK, I get it now.
