This is a toughy. If you can solve this puzzle, I give you major props.

I biked to a house party, rolled up and this brunette girl is sitting on a couch with my friends. She instantly shit-tests me with a sarcastic "Nice bike. Nice shoes." At first I was like "Eh? Why are you shit-testing me so hard?" This is awkward, gaming in front of friends. There's no clear route I can see that isn't either lame or try-hard.

She's hot tho, brunette and yummy. Pale skin and dark hair. Like Stoya with glasses.

In my mind I'm calculating moves like a chess game and I decide, ehhh, not tonight, not going to pick up that girl.

I ignore her and just chat with my friends and dance...with a bunch of my female friends. I came to have a good time, not battle with a hot chick.

And yet...in the back of my mind, I'm like ok, I can fuckin' do this.

So, to the dance floor. I proof with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 girls right in front of Brunette. I'm grinding with my female friends. I'm lifting up my girls and spinning them around. I'm doing elaborate dance drama.

Hot Brunette is dancing with her friend right next to me.

Here's a lame opener I've tried with many many girls. It's very simple. While dancing, you nudge your shoulder and hips against the girl and give her a little bit of "drama face" or sing the lyrics of the song and then roll off a little. It helps if you do it on the chorus of the song, or give it a little bit of sass. A riskier move (and maybe filtering for sassy girls who like to dance) is to give even more sass or say something like "Oh girl you dance crazy" From there you can re-open or involve the friends. Just sort of burst the approach bubble.

Anyway, I do this on the girl and she smiles and I roll off and start lifting up my female friends and being obnoxious.

20 minutes of proofing and etc, etc. I go back to the couch alone and chat with some random girl.

Then something weird happens. The hot girl's roommate sits on the couch next to me. (roommate girl was pretty hot too but not really my type)

And the hot girl sits on her roommate's lap.

I over hear the hot girl and her roommate say "Jeez he's really good at talking to girls" I think "Am I getting player vibe?" So, I re-open with the dumbest line ever "I just got out of a relationship". Roommate girl perks up and says "Mee too!"

OK. Time to just sort of be non-creepy and make friends with the roommate. "Hello! I'm coughcoughpow. What do you do? Where are you from?"

A few minutes of this and the hot girl SITS next to me and says "Whew!"

WTF WTF This is like some bobby fischer game of the century chess shit!

So I vibe with the hot girl and her roommate gets up to leave.

Hottie is laughing like crazy, I'm talking about orchestras and geography and drawing maps on her shoulder. Peppering in sexy talk. I'm like OK, isolated...next step...go for kiss!

So I go in and start talking sexy in her ear and kiss her temple. She's cool with that but she says she has a boyfriend. NOT just a bullshit "I have a boyfriend" either.

WTF?! I go through all this and she's turned on and it's a little bit of a moral dilemma. This is not a relationship on the rocks. She really likes her boyfriend.

I give a cheesy "Yeah, but are you going to marry him?" and she seriously thought about it and said "Maybe".

UGH this is not my kind of game, I don't go around picking up girls in stable relationships! I'm not THAT much of a jerk, I'd feel bad. Relationships on the rocks are one thing.

Now I know it's possible to move forward from here. I decided the options were:

  1. Get number, keep in contact. And she is not flinching and she's not leaving. I'm not so clear on this series of moves.
  2. Pump more state, elevate.
  3. Social proof? But she's the hottest girl at the party.
  4. Go for more intimate emotional connection?

Curious if any more advanced people have a solid opinion on this.
