Old poster, new account. I learned yesterday that some of the girls I've been gaming are redditors and know my old account name... so here we stand.
After work yesterday, I had some errands to run. Smoke shop, grocery store, and coffee shop.
I went to a familiar coffee shop chain that's specific to my region and walked in like a boss, smiling at everyone and stopping to chat with a guy who had the same pair of headphones as I did. Remember: talk to everyone. It works.
I walk up to the counter and order my tea. I was given pause because I used to work for this chain before I got my new job, and an old friend of mine was working there now. So we start catching up, chatting, etc.
This cute little redhead girl named Tara walks up with a smile and says "aren't you here everyday?"
Timeout
This would qualify as "being nice" to a clueless guy, but I'm a grizzled veteran in this regard, so I took it as an opportunity.
Game On!
I give her my trademark smirk and say "nah uh. I've probably been here four... maybe five times ever." And she laughs. We banter a bit more back and forth, and she ducks into the back room. I keep chatting with my bro, and he's telling me "hey man, we could use a weekend guy to come in and shape this place up. You were a supervisor right? You should work here!"
I told him I'd kick the idea around. Granted, free coffee and all the girls you can talk to roll through (it's a coffee chain in the burbs for fuck's sake), so I'm interested.
Tara's back, so I point right at her and say "hey! Come over here for a second" around the bar. She does (of course). I ask her to fetch me her managers card. She does.
Then back to the banter. It went something like this:
Tara: You used to work for [company]?
ned: Yeah back in college I worked here for two years.
Tara: Did you like the bar or front [register] better?
ned: I always liked working the front. I'm pretty good at talking to people.
Tara: I bet! You are good at talking. (Her eyes are starting to swell up like a little anime girl, I'm in.)
ned: Truth be told Tara, I'm pretty good at everything I do. (Notice here I'm in full swashbuckling mode, unable to arrange any fucks right now.)
Tara: Well I think you should work here then!
ned: I bet you'd like that wouldn't you? (I said with a wink and a smile)
Tara: Yes! I would!
ned: What time are you done tonight? (As I'm saying this I thrust my phone into her hand.)
Tara: Well we're done at 9 tonight. Why?
ned: (Again, shot in the dark, no fucks given) Well, you could swing by after if you want, I only live a mile down [street].
Tara: (Blushing) Well tonight I have to go to bed early, but I'm free tomorrow and Sunday. (During this time, she took my number too.)
ned: Great. Text me then.
Tara: Ok! See you later Ned!
I said a quick bye, grabbed my tea and laughed like a pirate the whole way home. At 9:15 last night, I get a text from her (I think) saying she was happy to see me and she wants to grab drinks tonight.
So what did we learn here gentlemen?
Outcome independence. My goal walking into this coffee shop was to get a spot of tea, not meet a nice girl. I ended up with both, so... Yahtzee.
Be BOLD. Never, ever back down. Confidence is a trump card a lot of guys simply don't have.
Learn how women "approach". Unless you've got a female PUA on your hands, I would bet some considerable cash that most girls are simply not going to walk up to you. They will, however, make it painfully obvious and rather easy to approach them. In this example, we saw that Tara made it a point to get into my conversation with my friend so she could be seen.
Assume until proven otherwise. Notice that I didn't actually ask for her number once in the conversation. I assumed she wanted it, all I did was put my phone in front of her. She did the rest.
Make plans, but actually don't make plans. I gave her an opportunity, she took it. Notice that I didn't explain my schedule, but forced her to negotiate hers. This might seem sleezy, I call it strategic.
Questions/Comments/Complaints welcome.
