I want to start out by saying thank you to all the people that have contributed to this subreddit you have really helped me begin my journey to becoming a better person!
THANK YOU
I started going back to college this summer, a big step for me and I am really excited for this new experience. I'm only 22 and I have always been the ultimate beta bitch boy. Well, with me returning to school I wanted to make an effort to start over and become the man I have always wanted to be. So, this summer I signed up for 2 classes the first one is anatomy and the second one is fundamentals of public speaking class. I wanted a chance to start talking and using body language in a place that I would be judged and given feedback on so I could attack my AA and start talking to the girls I wanted to.
The first speech was a simple introduction, nothing crazy, just 1-3 minutes about what ever you liked as long as it fit the guidelines that we were given out a couple days ago. I signed up for the third spot, I wanted to listen to a couple of the other speakers before I gave mine. The first 2 speakers were both service men serving in the Air Force. They were both nice and calm and spoke of there families, careers, and future goals. They were both good speakers and really demonstrated a humble kind of value that was nice to see. They weren't there to influence others and impress anyone, they were both simply giving there speech.
So now, I'm freaking out! How am I supposed to influence my classmates? or catch the attention of the 2 beautiful ladies in the room? or impress a teacher with my non existent speaking skills? In that few seconds of panic I remembered this video And I know that in the video Nick is talking about holding a conversation. But the idea of cheering on the "other guy(s)" popped into my head and before I gave my speech. When I had just gotten to the podium, I thanked them, sincerely! I have not done any thing remarkable like serving the USA and I wanted them everyone to know that they are remarkable people who deserve our praise.
After that my speech went on and I demonstrated my value by telling my goals and plans to finish school. I demonstrated I was a driven individual making steps to become a better person. My teacher adored my speech and told me how well I did and I returned to my seat.
So now the good part. I sit next to a really really adorable german girl and I haven't yet been able to face my AA and talk to her yet. It was incredible, she was talking to me asking me questions and smiling we had nice chats in between other speakers. I didn't ask for her number or anything since I feel there is no rush to escalate things since we will be in class together for the remainder of the summer. Right?
So today, I wanted to stop by and thank this community for providing resources and support during my time of change. I hope my story helps someone like all of your stories have helped me.
This is my first post on Seddit so if it is not up to the standard, I understand and I will gladly revise anything I have messed up. Thank you again!
