What do you feel are the essential values shared amongst confident, self-validating men?

Core inner values vary greatly from person to person. So does your definition of the successful man.

For example, let's take the value of monogamy/polyamory. Hugh Hefner is a successful man with many sexual partners. Many other successful people stick to one partner. Some date around. Some cheat. Some feel bad about cheating. Some don't give a shit.

How about alcohol and drugs? Some successful people are essentially junkies that are just charismatic and good at life. They get girls and money. Other successful people live in complete abstinence from mind altering substances at all.

I think, one core value for any successful man is to allow himself to review his values objectively every now and then. Imagine that as you pick a side on something, you're inside your head. Do it right now with one of your core values, or pick up a new one. It can be anything from the monogamy/polyamory question to looking at your sofa.

Now ask yourself questions:

Do I like this?

Does it look good?

How do I feel about it?

Weigh in all these things that you can come up with.

Now imagine that your mind is traveling outside of your head. You are watching things from a distance. You're a ghost. Social standards don't apply to you. The choice is entirely yours. What do you truly feel? Do you only like the sofa because you bought it, but in reality it's really fucking ugly? Did you think you wanted multiple sexual partners, but you are actually looking for "the one"? Or the opposite?

Don't be afraid. Nothing you do is a permanent choice. Reviewing your values every now and then is good for you. As my father likes to say: "A man that thinks the same way now that he does in 10 years, wasted 10 years of his life." (I'm not sure where the quote originates).

In my experience, as you use this technique, you get to know yourself a lot better. When you're shopping for decor for example, you won't buy this or that to impress people. If you're out looking for a new car, you won't buy an expensive sports car if you like (value) the unpopular cheap model more. Thats when it becomes an automated process, and you start filling your life with things that actually matter to you. Women, things, opinions. It doesn't matter if it's the conventional "American dream" or if you decide that you actually like chubby goth girls more (whatever floats your boat). What matters is you get to know your core values, you get to know yourself, your consistency in your life choices rise, and essentially you become a more attractive man. This highly raises your chances of becoming successful and happy, because you won't waste your time chasing money when you don't want it, you won't waste time with friends who you don't like, you won't spend money on things you don't care about. In the end, that means you have the time and resources to go after what you really want, and you will know yourself good enough to know what it is.

Bam, you have core values and you only weigh yourself up against yourself. Now you're shaping your own life.
