• Don’t make your conversation into an interview.

It's not about you just shooting a question at her, then a short answer from her, then another question, rinse and repeat. There's no connection in this.

Use statements instead of questions whenever possible.

This is not so important. Asking questions is fine. It's not a death sentence. The real issue is when you aren't LISTENING. You make a statement or a question, then you listen to her response. I mean 100% listen, actively. No thinking about what you will want to say, while she's talking. Period. THIS is the important thing: Pay attention. Then when she's done talking, you can think about what you want to say in response. You can follow up with a statement or a question based on what she just said.

Prompt her to tell you about herself by telling stories yourself.

You don't inspire her to open up by monopolizing the conversation with some story about yourself. You inspire her to tell you about herself with nothing more complicated than a question or a statement, followed up with active listening, that gives you insight that allows you to know good paths to take the conversation into.

It's a bad habit to start telling stories about yourself as an opener. Get her talking FIRST. Then as you go along, sure, share a story, carefully.

Could you guys elaborate with detailed examples?

Here's an example, and note that the kick-off doesn't have to be complicated:

Guy: Where are you from?

Girl: I'm from _______ . Guy: Oh, was it difficult to move all the way out here?

From there the conversation an branch in so many ways but the point is that the start doesn't have to be special. What's special is what you do with the material you're given. You see, many guys don't truly listen to girls when they're speaking, and they pass up a ton of easy information.

How do you ask an open ended question with a statement?

Don't get caught up in this. It's not important. Also, this whole focus on statements is possibly even detrimental. If you spend time making statements about the girl that amount to cold reading...... and you're wrong about your statements, then you are constantly drawing attention to the lack of connection, instead of building it.

If you must make statements, don't make guesses about her. Make statements based on how you feel about things she has said.

I particularly like to use statements instead of questions. So let me keep it simple, with a simple example.

Bad: Where do you work?
Good: I bet you have an exciting job.

Lead the conversation with statements, instead of "job interview" questions.

Instead of asking "Are you adventurous?", you say " I bet you are the adventurous type". You could build on that statement by giving an example of what an adventurous type would do.
