This is a great learning experience.
I think every guy has developed "the one" in their mind at some point. I certainly have and it is emotional torture.
It is very hard to remove the feelings, so as you've discovered you don't want her in your social life. Unfortunately your only real option in your current setting is to make it appear as if you don't care. Focus on these other girls you're picking up and your hobbies (hopefully lifting weights).
But the real lessons are 1) not to invest in another person more than they invest in you 2) to constantly be aware that whatever you have going on with her really is just temporary 3) Take the risk early on, slightly overly aggressive is accepted better by girls than slightly cautious.
This all prevents the pain and allows you to truly enjoy sexual relationships.
Prevention is better than cure.

Like another guy said, you just need to take chances on other women. You have a UK accent and you're in Detroit? That's perfect. Go to Third Street Bar, a lot of college students with loose morals. Exodus is usually hype on a Friday or Saturday night. There's some sweet places in the burbs, Mon Jin Lau, Sabrage and Grasshopper Lounge are some of my favorites. Don't think about her too much, you will do well. It's not a crazy party city like Boston but there's plenty of beautiful women that will love to keep low key benefits relationships, as well as date. It's even easier, I think, with the abundance of privacy that is available. Most people will be living in their own 1 bedroom apartments or studios, unless they live at their parents hoise. Which makes it even sweeter for you if you got your own place. Enjoy it man!
