I was walking through a playground when I saw these two cute girls on the swings. Next to them was a mom and a father and a kid. Since these were the only people at the playground, I figured this was their family. I walked up to them anyway and asked if this was their family. They said no. I then began conversing with them when all of a sudden a guy walks up to them. They say hello and I can tell they know him. I assumed he was one of their boyfriends, but he made no physical contact with either one of them so I let it go. They got up to leave and before they left I asked for and got the number of one of them.

There were three fears I attacked before getting the number. The first fear was the fear of groups. Approaching a group of two or more girls can be scary, but in reality it is not at all any more difficult than approaching one.

The second fear I attacked was the fear of them being with their family. I assumed they were with their family as an excuse not to approach, when the reality was quite different.

The third fear I attacked was the fear of the boyfriend. I thought that a guy hanging out with these girls certainly was a boyfriend and therefore I should not go for the number, when it turned out he was a non threat.

Fear is in our minds. It is a bluff easily called. The excuses for inaction cannot be louder than the reasons for action.
