A girl I was seeing for a while agreed to go out with me simply cause I used the word "oodles" in a sentence and she found that endearing.

There is no rule to the perfect opener, conversation flow-er or closer, so all I'd recommend is improving conversation skills (if yours are low) with absolutely anyone. Be that, librarian, pizza guy, cab driver, anyone! Best however though that, if you need to improve that you fumble awkwardly with single serving strangers then take away lessons.
