I walked into the student lounge and looked for a seat and the only open one was right across from a HB9 with her face dug into a computer doing some kind of homework. I had about half an hour until I needed to get to my next class so I knew I needed to make a move. Unfortunately, I did not stay true to the 3 second rule which resulted in me overthinking it a bit...

With about 15 mins left until my next class started, the guy sitting next to her started packing up his things so I asked him if he was finishing up with the computer, which he was, so I grabbed my stuff and moved to his seat. Other than a few stealthy glances from her, she never took her face away from the computer. I finally realized that if I didn't take a chance then I would be hating myself for the rest of the day; so I decided to do it. My heart started racing and my palms got a little sweaty, then I decided "fuck it, let's do this."

"Hi, what's your name?" I said with a huge grin, then I probably asked a few too many filler questions with a few too many pauses of us going back to our computers while I tried to think of something else to say (usually I'm good with this stuff but she wasn't reciprocating at all). The first thing that came to my mind was an assignment that I had done in my communications class the week before where we had to get five people we knew to write down five words that described us and one word which did not, so I asked her to do this and explained what to do. She agreed, and got pretty shy whenever she looked up to me already looking at her, although we had some decent eye contact for a while. Finally she finished and showed me the list which read: outgoing, funny, not shy, nice, crazy and the rod which didn't describe me was shy.

I smiled back at her and thanked her, then we talked for a little while longer until I had to leave for class and I told her that we should talk again sometime, which she agreed to, then I asked for her number, got it, then went on my merry way.
