A couple weeks ago I posted about my wife and her body issues since pregnancy. And then I posted a followup. And here's going to be the last follow-up for a while.

I just got home from the hospital. I got a call this morning shortly after lunch from one of my wife's coworkers that she'd started bleeding and fainted. She's a nurse so she was already at the hospital which is great. I rushed over.

When I get there I realize they mean, like, bleeding from the lady parts. She tells me that the doctor says she's about 3 months pregnant. She hasn't had a period since she found out we were pregnant last year so the absence wasn't really a sign.

They're giving her some plasma or blood or whatever and medicine to stop the cramping and keeping her overnight. They were worried about a miscarriage but they could pick up the fetal heartbeat. Really distressed but it's still there. The baby's, like, really small. Much smaller than our daughter was at this stage.

The doctor has said that my wife's undereating (he was pretty shocked when she told him she was doing 1200 calories a day and breastfeeding) and doing exercise on top probably triggered her body to start hoarding fats and that it might be/have been preparing itself to abort the fetus because it couldn't sustain both. Hence the bleeding.

She feels like a pretty big moron because she's a nurse who has a kid who didn't realize she was pregnant again. And she's super upset because she's realized that she almost lost the baby - she was so obsessed with getting skinny again that she totally missed all the signs she was pregnant.

I'm just at home - had to pick up the daughter from daycare and wanted to bring some stuff for the wife - some pajamas and her toothbrush and her ipad and stuff.

Not really sure what we're going to do next. This is a pretty big surprise. We weren't planning on having a second kid until 5 years down the road minimum.

But anyway. I felt like I needed to get that latest development off my chest.
