Somebody recently posted about past mistakes, and the detrimental affect that you create for yourself if you don't let them go. I felt like elaborating on this a bit, and near the New Year is probably the perfect time for everybody here to do a little bit of self-reflection.

I've spent a lot of time and energy torturing myself with thoughts of my past, and this slowed down my progress when it came to moving forward and living in the present. When it comes to past mistakes this is pretty obvious. You fucked up, and it happens. We all fuck up. Part of being a man and being confident is being able to admit that you fucked up and laugh about it.

And this idea goes beyond just your mistakes; it applies to anything in the past. I used to look back on the person that I was in High School a lot and feel shitty for myself, because I was a pussy and a loser in High School and never got girls. I beat myself up even though I was in college, in a fraternity and surrounded by a ton of really cool and amazing people (guys and girls). The fuck was I thinking? This messed up my confidence in the present just because I was thinking about the past and feeling bad about it. But you know what? I FUCKING LET IT GO.

That's it. I said "fuck it" and let it go. Yeah, I was a loser and a shitty person in High School. Yeah, I never had a girl friend and I never sat with the cool kids at lunch. Yeah, I played sports but I was never "one of the guys" or any of that shit. Yeah, I played too many video games. But why should it matter? That's not me now. If I wanted to be the best version of 'Me' that I could be, I had to let it go. So that's my advice for you, let the past go.

Think of it as a polarizing experience. When you meet girls, you're supposed to be yourself and be honest and upfront (I know that this might irk the pickup guys on here, but I honestly don't give a fuck). When you're honest and upfront, you polarize them. They either like you or they don't. This is what I think of when I look back on my past self. This is what helped me let go of everything in my past. Those popular kids that didn't accept me? I just didn't polarize them in the right direction. I should do with them what I'd do with a girl who doesn't polarize towards me now, and move on to another group of guys who do accept me. That's exactly what I did, and now my new group of friends makes that popular crowd in High School look like a bunch of losers.

So fuck your past. It happened and it's a learning experience if you let it be one. It's something to look back and laugh at every once in a while, but don't look back if you aren't confident enough in who you are now to look back. The new year is upon us and this is the perfect opportunity to leave your past behind and focus on yourself in the present and the future. I'll leave you guys with my favorite quote, which helped me a lot with coming to terms with who I am:

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than to be loved for who I am not." -Kurt mothafuckin Cobain

P.S. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!!
