Sorry for the long post but I'd appreciate some comments on my situation.
I'm a 20 year old (Almost 21) guy, and I've never had a girlfriend or even a close female friend to talk to. It's safe to say I have minimal experience with women. The thing is, I have social anxiety, and I was capable of forcing myself to get a couple of numbers during the end of my last semester in university. Now I'm proud of myself for that, and I told myself that I'd try to talk to as much girls as possible this semester, it's been a week already and safe to say I'm not doing so well. Now there's two points I'd like to talk about.
The first, I've been crushing hard on one of the two girls that I mentioned earlier in the post. To take you back to the start, I was walking with her after our final exam and straight out told her that I think she's gorgeous and I'd like to take her out on a date sometime to get to know her better. She replied that she thinks I'm a really nice guy but she's not interested in dating anyone right now, but she'd enjoy hanging out sometime just as friends. Now I don't mind being her friend, so a couple of days later I told her that I was going bicycle riding and asked if she wanted to tag along. But she was traveling later in the day. A few weeks later, I was thinking about her and I texted her asking how she was doing and if she came back home, but she was very bland and the conversation ended after a few texts (I had sent the last one). Well now the semester started and she's taking another course with me and we say hi to each other every now and then. The problem is I really feel like texting her to ask her to hangout one last time but I get really anxious about it and overthinking it just makes me exhausted. So there's that.
The second point is that I'm really picky when it comes to girls, I don't feel attracted to every girl I see, and if I don't think she is attractive I don't even bother looking at them or talking to them, which is a big problem for me (I could really use some female friends as you can see). I pass up a lot of opportunities when girls make the first move on me, and I don't even think about the fact that she made the first move until like 10 seconds later after she leaves. For example, here's a recent occurrence: There's this girl using the water bottle vending machine which I am heading towards to buy a bottle of water, anyway, as I move to wait in line behind her she turns around, we make eye contact and she smiles. That was my first signal, and it didn't even occur to me, I thought she was just being friendly. After she gets 3 bottles of water from the machine, she turns around and asks me "do you want one?" So there's number 2. She talked to me and what do I say? "No thanks, I'm good" and she leaves. I'd punched myself if there weren't people around. She talked first and I could've said anything to extend the conversation but I didn't. Why? Because I wasn't attracted.
So yeah, this isn't the first time I fail to notice that girls where making the first move and fail to at least befriend them. I guess this came out as kind of a rant, so thanks for reading.
