The title is a quote from RSD Julien.
Something fantastic happened the other day. I was winging a buddy of mine when we came upon a 2 set sitting down. I couldn't see their faces but apparently my wing could. He got really excited and said we should approach them. He said I should take the blonde and he will take the brunette. I said sure and we approached.
Well the brunette was a cute HB 6 and the blonde was a trying HB 4. Regretting my decision but not wanting to let my wing down, I struck up a conversation with the blonde, having no interest in her romantically.
Then it happened. While supporting my wing, I delved deep into conversation with her for literally an hour. It was amazing. I had never been able to last that long in conversation.
I suggested we go to Starbucks and the four of us went on an instant date. We continued talking for another hour before we exchanged numbers and left. I asked my wing of we should invite them for an after party but he wasn't down.
Lesson learned: When I was totally agenda free and outcome independent, I actually performed better and had a nicer experience. I plan to apply this principle to my approaches where I do have a romantic interest, and just get involved in the conversation solely for practice and to have fun.
