Your ex is just a thing in your mind. You've fantasized her into something she is not.

You don't miss 'her'. You miss the IDEA of her. You miss the way she made you feel. But you have to understand something man. There are plenty of women to make you feel that way.

She is not special. There is another woman that will make you feel even better.

As for making progress towards your future, LISTEN UP. You need to take steps.

Now I am no expert, but I really thing this sub /r/theredpill will help you out. Now, there is a lot of good information there, but like anything, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

What theredpill is, is different for everyone. But the biggest thing is self improvement/confidence/game/success...pretty much everything you said you are looking for.

Isnt the schooling for dental assistant like 2 years? i'd go back to school if you're not too old and really make a run of it. Go for something more challenging, you can always fall back into the pit of hell you're in now so that security should motivate you to do something else and make sure it actually happens.

Outside work/school, i'd hit the gym. Exercise is great for depression and putting you in a more proactive/confident state at baseline.

I'd also recommend meditation. A lot of people romanticize it and mystify it, but there's actually a good body of research that been done on it, and its apparently another extremely healthy habit to acquire and maintain. In my own experience, this has been the key to getting myself out of (and staying out of) a suicidal depression without meds. Have grown a lot internally and externally as a result.

Think thats a good place to start. First is based towards financial health, second towards physical health, and third towards mental. Some pretty essential stats there, would start grinding on what you can.

This situation seems temporary. It sucks while you're going through it, but I see a lot of positives as well. The fact that you finished school especially in a healthcare profession is a real positive because you can live just about anywhere and find work. It is like the world is open to you. The situation with your ex sounds really toxic and I am sorry to hear how things ended. Time will ultimately be what heals that wound, but the fact that you were able to get that connection once shows (I feel) that you can make that connection again with someone who will appreciate you more. From the sound of it, I think your life is just starting. You have a lot of potential for great things to come your way.

I broke up with my ex also, and she's seeing someone new. I've accepted that it was some of my fault, but it wasn't a relationship I was happy to be in, and I just miss the security she gave me, not her or her issues.

Don't feel pressured to approach if you're an emotional wreck, you'll just be off. If you do approach, expect to be off, accept that. Approaching will boost your confidence and self-respect, and it will distract you, but if you're already a mess, it'll be hard to get results - things that were a breeze are harder, now.

You need to just take time, process the obvious depression you have because of the split, and spend time with friends and family. Trust me, those people care about you more than her - they probably have a point if they're telling you those things.

Start with yourself, and let the results come when you think you have an amazing product to start marketing to women (yourself).

/u/nike747 is right. You miss the idea of what you and your ex had. I'm just getting over my last breakup. I broke up with her 2 years ago, and we'd been together for 4+ years. I knew it was the right thing to do, and we were off and on, and sometimes I still regret it, but it was for the best. If she treated you badly and wasn't good for you, then it's good she's gone. Time will help. Working on yourself will help. If you want to try to get laid, go for it, but it won't help long term.

Work on becoming the best person you can be. It's okay to feel lost. I'm 31, with a career I don't love, and I feel stuck too. Just try to make progress. Write a list of some places you might like to live. Consider traveling abroad if you're interested in that. Try some new hobbies. Find some things that bring you happiness. Save up a little bit of money, even if it's not much, and it'll turn into more money.

It's okay to not feel okay right now. Maybe you just need some time to be depressed. But just keep stepping forward. It may be overwhelming, but it sounds like you can do anything with your life that you want. You have no kids, no wife, and you're probably young. The future is brighter than you think it is.

Just work on self improvement, getting in touch with yourself, who you are, and what you want in life, and things will fall into place.
