I think you are thinking it way too deeply. You are subconsciously now seeing him as a person better with girls than you, and that might be the case, point is, you shouldn't give a single fu*k about his game and how many women he picks up, if he is just "stealing" girls away from you, then speak to girls without having him with you, and if he does "steal" girls away from you, he probably has a more carefree mentality and just probably emits a more social vibe than you currently do. He sounds like he is having fun and as you said yourself, having himself be self amused, and on the other side, you sound like you are thinking over the matter too much and not having fun yourself.

Not that I am experienced, but just my personal view

Also, you honestly sound like you are hating on the guy by the way you wrote this post, once girls feel that bit of dislike you feel for him because of him being himself and getting girls, they will not reciprocate to you imo. If you aren't loud or as active as him, you dont need to be, like you said, you dont picture yourself doing what he does, and you dont need to do what he does, just do yourself , a better version of yourself

I've seen this before, and I'm sure I'll see it again. Your roommate is basically very playful and doesn't care about acting a fool - which women of course love. You are considering acting more like that, but you can't let go of the fear of looking like a fool. At the end of the day, you will find what works for you. If being "calm and collected" is working great for you, then that's awesome. If not, then you should start practicing the desire to start letting go of that fear, and realizing that we only have one life to live and build an awesome dating life while we're here - so it might be time to try something new.
