You can do that early. I've tried it once with a 100% success rate. It's a suicide opener though. If she's not into it, it's going to be tough to recover. You're right that with a little more conversation before you'd have a better chance of pulling it off. In most cases it's about finding the balance between convo and making the move. Too much convo and you'll put yourself in the "friend zone" because she'll assume your relationship isn't sexual. Too little and you can find yourself in the "creep zone". It's different for every girl. You'll get better at reading individual situations and what they need, and then you can move on quickly from convo heavy girls. IMO that's the best path for what you want to do.
Kino is the most effective way of "seeding" the idea of going home with you.
