I will soon marry an American girl who's father is very conservative and religious (Christian). I have visited his house a couple of times, and he has always acted cold. Sometimes I suspect that he is not okay with his daughter marrying a Muslim, even though I have tried to tell him that Islam gives many rights to women and he has nothing to worry about. When we marry, she will not have to work as I will support her, and I will not divorce her (I have the option to take another wife if she doesn't fulfil my needs, although I did not mention this to him because his religion does not allow this and he therefore will not understand).

Now he says that he does not want to come to our wedding celebration, because he does not want to see his daughter having a Muslim wedding. I just want to get along with him, because I want our children to feel welcome at their grandfather's house, and I want him to understand that Islam is nothing to be afraid of. It's not called the religion of peace for nothing.

So I am thinking about buying a gift, maybe a car, as a "thank you" for him allowing me to marry his daughter. After all, I am taking one asset from him (his daughter), so I want to replace her for him with another asset. Do you think this will be accepted by him? If this is not enough, what kind of gift would be suitable? Fathers of Reddit, please give me your perspective. I cannot ask my Somali friends because none of them have American fathers-in-law.
