Why do I feel like I want this so badly, and then lose all interest once I'm actively speaking with someone I find attractive?

I think you want and need someone who you can connect with and hopefully have a stable and prosperous relationship with.

It's normal to find the women you meet boring. Some are just predictable in some (or multiple) ways, others are clearly just pretty faces (not a rule, but it's not something hard to find), and some are not really into you but into what you can offer (status, money, fame... pick one). Eventually you start to wonder why do you even keep going.

It seems pointless, but it's only because you're thinking of it all as a mere distraction/just another form of entertainment. You dont seem to realize what a deep connection to someone is like.

I have a similar problem. I have issue with intimacy stemming from abusive relationships with my mother and my sisters. Unconsciously I believe that deep down every woman is going to hurt and exploit me the way the women that raised me did. As a result, when I start getting too close to woman I tend to push them away by being rude to them. I have to remind myself daily that there are women out there who I will like when I give them a chance.

In my unprofessional opinion, you have some kind of unresolved emotional issue that is preventing you from being present and allowing intimacy into your interactions with women. It could be self-esteem, trauma, guilt, whatever. At the end of the day, the cause isn't really what's all that important. What's more important is that you become conscious to the fact that you are telling yourself stories that are ultimately making your interactions with women less enjoyable than they otherwise might be.
