I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct sub for this question but here I go.
I had a childhood that was, simply said, not what one would describe as normal in our western society. Most problems were related to my parents. Fortunately, I am living a really happy life now and I'm working hard and making good money. My family is still kind of hanging in that fucked up setting even with my support, and I am maybe the only one that got out of it. My brothers didn't finish school, have a lack of ambition and our lives are very different. I never really felt like my childhood was abnormal until a much later age, I never pitied myself, and I never had the feeling that it affects my current life.
But a couple of days ago I noticed that there is a pattern in the girls I date/see. Out of the 7 girls I've been seeing in the past two years only one of them (of which the seeing lasted the shortest) did not have a fucked up childhood like me. Subsequently, each of those girls with a fucked up childhood is either on their way out or already made it to a normal life. How is this happening? I am not picking girls on this property, I usually find out after a couple of dates. The same thing happens each time: Either me or my date let something lose about their childhood and we eventually are open book because we realise we are similar that way and don't have to be ashamed towards each other.
Obviously, this only applies to girls I actually see more than once. I don't really know if my one night stands are similar like this, but I guess not. I am wondering why this is happening. Why am I having good conversations with- and do I feel attracted to exactly these girls? And should I embrace this or should I start working on myself to shift from this repeating behaviour?
