Hey guys, I recently joined reddit and am in need of some advice.
About me: I am 25 years old, studying Aviation Engineering and planning to move to the UK.
A quick background information: I have been dating this girl from the UK since 2012. I met her through a friend of mine who is her cousin. She studied at the University of Toronto for a year through an exchange program. We have been in a good relationship overall, and I am planning to visit her and the parents in march next year.
I am currently studying Aviation Engineering, planning to move to the UK sometime in 2016. My main concern is about getting my credentials recognized in the UK, because after doing some research about Avionics license(AME) from Transport Canada, it may not be recognized in the UK because of different licensing system.
My options are to either; move to UK and do a two year program called part 66 EASA 147 and live an additional of two year to obtain UK B2 license, or complete my program here in Canada. My girlfriend graduates in summer of 2016, so we were planning to get married after I move to the UK. From financial perspective this may not be the best option, because it will cost me a lot more in the UK to complete the Aviation program, and I will have to study all over again in a new country.
I do see our relationship going to the next level towards marriage, but I am finding myself in a bubble which makes me see many things through but the risk of bursting it really high, because right now things are going great, but what happens if we break up or get divorced?
I am not planning to live in the UK, because my intentions are to come back home(Canada) eventually. Will this step be worth taking, because I do not want my decision to be emotionally driven and I do care about my education as well.
Cultural background: We come from Asian-Middle Eastern cultures. Even though I am not that big on cultural practices, but her parents are. The reason I will be going to the UK is to pretty much lay a proposal in marriage for their daughter. I know it is a giant leap in our lives, but at this stage I am not against the idea of marrying her.
I have several things to discuss with her parents, of which finance is a priority. I do not know what the future has set for me in terms of employment, but thinking about such step has put me in a never-ending cycle.
I don't need any specific advice on this situation, but general opinions and advice in regards to my situation.
Cheers
