Brief summary of who I am: 24, 5'9", about 190 right now, (going to the gym and trying to eat better to cut that down) Live in a nice apartment in a major US city; high paying job. I land most of my dates through OKC/CMB/Tinder, but I have trouble closing. I try to avoid RP jargon..

I match with this girl on CMB and set a date at my favorite bar.

After we get our drinks (we split the check) she picks out a good spot--bench seating in a corner, good for escalation. She's bright, talkative and way better looking than her profile pictures. I try to just sit back and listen, although I'm probably a bit less eloquent than usual when I do speak. Not sure if it was nerves or just stupidity. Conversation was generally pretty good--made her laugh.

She's pretty smart. I'm used to being smarter than my dates; this girl keeps up. Big turn on for me. I get the impression that she's a bit of a geek and maybe a tad socially awkward. (Not rainman level, just maybe 90% normal.)

I've been trying to up my physicality, so I try to emphasize my points by touching her arm, back, etc. and gradually move into her personal space, keeping eye contact. She doesn't recoil or react negatively, but she also doesn't reciprocate. I'd rather be more physical than less, so I just kept it up.

We both finish our drinks after about 2 hours, and since conversation's at a natural stopping point I end the date there. Talk to the bartenders while she's in the bathroom for a bit of social proof.

As she's jumping in a cab I catch her for a quick hug--she seemed to be kinda surprised (I get the impression that she might be a geek and not 100% socially with it--or she might just not be interested) so I just gave her a peck on the cheek instead of trying to kiss her.

Notes/semi tl;dr:

  • Both the greeting and departure were a bit awkward.

  • I did OK listening instead of talking, but I probably could have talked even less. I also made a mistake in that I asked her questions about things I knew nothing about since I was genuinely curious.

  • I'd rather be too physical than not physical enough (within reason) but I didn't get a good sense of her reaction either way.

  • I didn't set up a date 2. We talked about some places we might want to go as the night went on but no firm times were set.

  • Overall the date went OK, but she wasn't getting weak at the knees for me. Can't win 'em all; I liked her enough that I'm going to try for date 2.

Question: I'm going to text her in a few hours with a standard "Hey it was a fun time last night" deal. Should I lump in a setup for date 2 now, or wait a few days?

Is this the right forum for FRs like this?
