Approaching is necessary in seduction, that's the guys job. You never chase women but you Also don't sit on the sidelines watching girls go by. Don't be afraid to approach a girl and start a small conversation, nothing ground breaking, just a small convo to break the ice and get to know each other. Simple as that, too many guys go all in on a girl.... Oh shes so hot I have to talk to her Omg I love her. No fuck that, sure notice she's hot then say okay does she have the personality to back it up? Go in knowing you're the catch not her

It varies and is circumstantial. There are "smart" places that attract women. If you get in the right location/place the women will basically come to you. In other situations, if you get some eye contact, gesture her to you. She may come, she may not. She may tell you to come here.

I reject the framing or phrasing of this. :P

Chasing comes off almost as if the guy is putting in all the energy and the girl is just coasting and doing little to nothing. This is, or should be, unattractive. Like the idea of a girl who lays there like a dead mannequin in bed is a turn off, and yet some guys think it's attractive to go for a girl that's not hitting the ball back. I don't support that.

But if we're talking about whether a guy approaches the girl or waits to see who comes to him, I think it's a false dilemma.

It's silly to let an opportunity pass if you're interested
It's silly to pass up a fish that jumps in the boat, if you're interested.

Whether or not the guy has interest in the girl in question is important, and something that shouldn't be taken for granted just because others might think she's hot or just because she's interested.

Another distinction I'd make is that we often think of social interactions has having these clear beginnings marked by someone walking up to another person (approaching) and starting a verbal conversation (opening). This is a very limited view of how social interactions work, and also, it's false in many cases.

We know that the non-verbal makes up a huge chunk of social interactions and all that starts the moment you're in public. Facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, posture, body language overall, and so on.

There's usually some amount of non-verbal interaction (and sometimes screening) happening before one person starts verbally opens another person. The interaction starts before the open and before the formal "approach" in many cases.

So with #2 in mind, in many cases, we're talking about people who've had some amount of non-verbal interaction, and it's a question of one person deciding to start a conversation or not.

Whether this is the girl or the guy, DOESN'T matter in the end as long as it gets done. What matters is making sure you don't pass something up, especially if your curiosity is piqued and the non-verbal interaction is positive going in.
