As a noob, is daygame in my neighbourhood a bad idea?

You don't have to "approach with your daygame", just talk to people like they're normal humans. If you manage to get a nice conversation going and build some chemistry, or if the girl clearly shows interest, sure ask them to lunch, or an activity that you brought up during the conversation.

Also being a confident man and approaching with a smile and friendly/good intention never gives you a bad rep. Girls might reject you but it never makes you look like a bad person.

Approach them indirect and dont ask them out immediately. You will see them again and you can build each time,

"Hey, are there any more grocery stores here?"

if your worried about it, go to a different neighborhood to practice. maybe some place 20 minutes away: just far enough that you won't run into any one you know but not so far that its a hassle to get there.

The advice to "go just a little further away" isn't bad. That said, if your opens are really executed in a fun, positive, friendly manner (yet still direct). and to people in your general age bracket, you are likely to get warm responses even if they end in "reject". That has the advantage in fact of setting up some of them for the near future, after they spend to much time thinking about how NICE it was to be approached like that, to come back for "more". But until you feel you are pretty smooth and competent, doing it a bit further away is good advice I think.
