What happens if you tell a girl "Im picking up girls"?

It's better to not say it than to say it. She knows you're "picking up girls" when you ask for her number. If you tell her you're picking up girls it's kind of like, okay I'm just one of many girls and this isn't actually so meaningful. And your opening line is probably being recycled, there's a lot of things that can go through her mind, and I don't think too many will be positive, personally.

That's a stupid phrase to say to a girl, but I think I have replied with "went out for a walk hoping to meet a beautiful girl".
