I would text to confirm, like on the day of just a quick

"See you at 8!"

Or something to that effect as a reminder and so the person knows that you remember and will be there. I would make contact to confirm rather than risk being stood up, especially if you haven't conversed since making plans. We all get busy, sometimes we forget times/dates.

First off you want to set up any new meet-up with a Female close to you.

Its not going to be a long drive to see if you connect with her
If she's interested you can escalate and guess what? you only stay a few minutes away
It prevents you from sending a Needy Reminder... You show up, if shes there cool, if not you didn't invest a long drive there
