It’s stunning how many couples move in together for the wrong reasons. It’s not surprising however, to see many relationships self destruct in the aftermath of this one poor decision.

There’s only two things I find more insane:

  • Having children for the wrong reasons
  • Getting married for the wrong reasons

So, let’s talk about when it’s NOT the right time to move in together:

  • For convenience
  • Out of obligation
  • To appease your partner
  • If your relationship is ‘on the rocks’
  • If you are arguing constantly
  • If you are having doubts about staying together
  • If one partner has given an ultimatum “We move in or I leave you”, “I want a commitment” etc
  • If your reasoning is “We’ve been together for x years, it’s just time to move in together”
  • If you are bowing to pressure from your friends or family or society
  • If your religion or culture demands it
  • To save money on rent
  • By accident e.g. your boyfriend’s housemate is moving out just when your lease is up

When IS it the right time to move in together?

The ONLY time it’s the right time is:

When neither of your can STAND THE THOUGHT of not being with each other every moment you possibly can. Until then, stay apart.

When you do move in together, one of two things will happen:

  • Your relationship will implode
  • Your relationship will thrive

It’s a great test but don’t test your relationship until it’s ready.
