So, yeah. I study in Australia. Everybody commutes from their parents house or a sharehouse, works part-time (me included) and sticks to the same group of friends they made in high school. I study STEM, and my classes are male-dominated and filled with nerdy low-SMV guys and Chinese and Indian students who can't speak English.

So I did what you all told me to do - join clubs and societies. They cut into my already limited free time since I study and work weekends, but I'm lonely, so clubs and societies it is.

Here's the thing, though... nobody's turning up. My sports league has nearly a thousand likes on its Facebook page, but training just got cancelled for the whole fucking year because nobody turned up except for me and two Chinese girls. The drama club, well, it's more of an advertising board for local community theatre plays. I attended a meeting at the Mathematics and Statistics society, but only five people showed up, and I was the only person that spoke English there. Fantastic. A university with nearly 30,000 students. What the fuck?

Do Australian universities just suck for meeting people in general, or is this the same story for clubs and societies in the US and the UK?
