How do you touch a girls shoulder in anyway that isn’t awkward or strange?

I struggled with that too. A shoulder is up high and it's hard to raise your hand up there deliberately but casually.

I settled on a hand around the waist. Only when the moment is right like after a hello or goodbye hug before letting go, when leading her somewhere or directing her attention to something. Either really short, just a brief touch, or a few seconds if we're having a warm moment.

I just watched a James Tusk "double date" infield and he's careful when he's making the first kino attempts to always look away as he touches her. So he's touching her waist, brushing her hair away from her face etc. while he looks away at the tv behind the bar.

Sitting beside her on a couch or in a booth works really well, letting your thighs touch. If things heat up it's easy to slide your hand up her thigh while you look away, then take your hand away as if nothing happened. The excuse to sit this way is to look at pictures together on your phones.
