I [26M] am falling for an old classmate [24F], who just recently recontacted me out of nowhere.
Here is some backstory:
I have done 3 years of dental school before stopping because I disliked the job. It made me feel anxious, unhappy, disinterested, sick, so I took the hard choice to stop and do something else (you have to pass hardcore ranked exams to get in dental school and it basically sets you in ez mode for the rest of your life, so you need ballz to quit). I spent these 3 years in a group of female friends, which she was part of. This girl is the purest girl I know. She is amazingly cute but has never been in a relationship or anything even though I've seen her reject a guy from our class 2 times. (Sidenote 1: that guy had the same name as me, her bestfriend used to tease us by saying "he's the wrong one"). The day I quit dental school, no one was aware of my decision. I didn't tell anyone and left like a d*uche, which probably made them mad but I was too emotionally attached to them, and didnt want them to worry about me as I knew what I was doing. I only left them a text saying that I didn't want to pursue this career, and stopped talking/texting them altogether.
It's now been 1,5 year since I've last seen/talked to her or the other girls. After this much time, I had honestly turned the page, and completely forgot about them: my thoughts where focused on my actual friends and studies. My old group of friend was definitely out of my life and concern.
But then, this summer, she started texting me out of the blue, saying that it's been so long since she had news from me, that she'd like to see me and that we should never ever be out of touch with each other again. She then asked me out for launch/coffee, just the two of us (anyday, she was willing to find some time to see me). I still got no news from my other girl friends, so it's definitely something between her and me.
(Sidenote 2: we weren't best buddies or anything, and never hung out like that, so I was quite surprised.)
At the time, I couldn't accept her offer because I was working part-time, so I told her I'd love to but can't because of work. So we agreed to see each other another time. In the meantime, she passed her exam and I passed mine, but the conversation was dead since then.
So I decided to text her back and ask her out myself, now that I was free. Before trying to ask her out, I asked her if anything happened in her love life, to which she instantly answered that nothing happened and that she was going to be free soon (she has family at home and doesn't know when they'll be leaving) so we could see each other whenever I have some free time. I was going to ask her out, but she beat me to it. (I do think that me asking about her love life made her go agressive on me).
(Sidenote 3: she has a very strong personnality, almost never uses text & social media, and usually only hangs out with friends on special occasion.)
So, Seddit, what's your opinion about this? Am I the dumbest guy for making her ask me out 2x and not get that she is interested?
I am definitely confused about it. I don't believe anyone would text back a normal friend who threw them in the trash and ignored them the instant he decided to quit. However this girl is so innocent that I don't know what to believe anymore, so I assumed attraction based on the fact that she is the one asking me out.
Thanks!
TLDR: friend who was maybe interested in me and that I haven't seen/had news for 1,5 years texted me recently and wants to see me/hang out with me. Asked me out 2x already.
PS: sorry for the **** english, it's not my native language.
