Where do I go to meet girls/people in general?

Anywhere.

Well, anywhere that actually has people there. I did approaches in malls, on buses, bus stops, trains, train stations, in clubs... But my favorite is approaching girls in the streets.

You're in a great position - since you're in a new city, you can just go out and be like "hey, I just moved here, where is a good coffee/hot dog/whatever place around here?" and start conversations that way.

Although, if you're looking for a romantic or sexual partner, I would advise to use the direct approach as soon as you get used to talking to strangers.
