I know not to "shit where I eat" and that I should go to the mall to cold-approach, etc.

I could give a long list of reasons why I want to practice with classmates first, but instead of wasting time I'll just say that I have my reasons.

My strategy so far has been to find the best looking woman in the class and sit right next to her (make it clearly intentional). I introduce myself, give her a handshake, etc. Make a few witty comments throughout class but stay mostly silent.

When walking out of class I'll walk by this person for a while and start up a conversation, then when leaving the class next time I'll say "you're cute, give me your number" and acquire it.

This seems to work well. But sometimes I choose the wrong person to sit next to and work on, because I find out through Facebook (no friend requests just a quick search) that they are really religious/married/have kids/boyfriend of several years. I wouldn't mind pushing forward with some of those situations from a cold approach, but I don't want to start drama since they're in my class.

Yes, I know, that's why class is a bad place to do this, but I want to work with what I've got.

If I chose the wrong person at the start of the quarter, I'll sometimes change seats and try someone else the next time.

The biggest problem I've had so far is getting them out of the "he's my classmate" mindset to the tingles. It seems like a lot of them just want to leave and go home and not talk to anyone. They're friendly to me and I've seen several of them check me out, but it hasn't been quite enough.

Anyway, just wondering what thoughts you guys have for making plates out of classmates.
