I feel like you're over thinking things. For me it's just getting dressed to look nice and seeing where things go when you meet in person. That's when you can tell whether you can have a good conversation and are able to establish a good connection. I don't feel like you can push a relationship to happen, it should come as if it feels naturally. Tinder hookups are different but if it's a genuine dating experience, I'd say just relax and see where things go. Don't have insanely high hopes and believe that every date will lead to a relationship. In reality, we only connect to so many people.

Edit: Why did you downvote my comment? It's the truth, you're way overthinking things. Maybe you cast way too much anxiety on it and is why you're super unsuccessful dating and no one wants to date you.

Was the time and effort I spent to go to this point worth the conversation that we're going to have?

As the date goes on, I'm pretty much on autopilot. Jokes, stories, roleplay, people watch, biography exchange, relationship history download. Necessary flirts and caresses. Chicks rarely break the script in interesting ways. The technique of pickup is the easy part. On a date, a journeyman player should fuck at least 50% of the time, and most vets are probably north of 75%.

By not being concerned with the flesh, I can see a lot of the surface flaws in her personality and behavior.

This chick is rude to waitstaff. This one has the palate of a 5 year old. This girl really cares about money. This girl has traveled all around the world, but she is still sheltered.

Not being totally sold on fucking the chick, not trying to do anything to get in her pants, subtly shifts the balance.

But I don't do this because I'm trying to manipulate. I'm not trying to stand out, or be a "gentleman". I've just been burned by girls that talk a good game.

first date; sell yourself and get out. leave them wanting more

second date; establish connection. dig deep. maybe get laid, but dont try to force it.

third date; amp up the flirting, get laid.

When I'm going on a date I focus on having a calming presence and I really just try to focus on enjoying myself. When I used to look up good first date topics and stuff like that I wasn't really communicating and or being genuine. Me being nervous on the date only made my date more nervous and that rarely got me a second date.

there's no effective way to make her like you. Either she'll want to see you or she won't. Focus on establishing a real connection and making her feel comfortable. If you're only trying to get laid you don't need to take her on a date. Just tell girls to come over to your place. Either they will or they want to have sex with you. It's not as complicated as you're trying to make it.
