You say your parents are stupid third worlders. Yet, they own 900k in gross assets;
You have 12k in net assets, and mentioned losing 8k on the market;
You have a law degree and went to a high class university.

How is it even possible that you live in such a bad neighborhood, then? I'm thinking that you might be exaggerating in such a way that makes you paranoid. Seeing a bum on the streets or finding some needles in an alley nearby doesn't automatically make your neighborhood a complete ghetto. Your parents are really, really well off compared to those druggies you've described. And I think you are too, especially because you could afford to lose money on the market (if you couldn't, you shouldn't have invested). Like you've said, you're paranoid. If this continues, see a psychologist for this.

I would suggest you take a retreat.

a 3-7 day mindful thinking retreat. You can do this at most religious facilities.

Spend those days as follows:

Day one, calming, empty the mind.

Day two contemplate what you want in life

Day three, where you are and who is around you. Are the positive or negative.

After taking stock, limit your exposure. Cut ties with people. Make financial changes as well, if you are ignorant of how markets work, invest in proven funds.

Lastly, evaluate your own mental and emotional health.

Quite simply, if you come from a genetic background of mental illness, expect some. Have yourself evaluated if you feel you are not in control.

If you have severe issue, don't have kids. Adopt.

Why not just move yourself? Move to a more middle class area that isn't too expensive, but isn't filled with subsidized government housing.

Get a job as a paralegal at a modest, no frills law firm. You're probably overqualified, but fuck it. Stick with it until you gain some confidence in the field. You'll learn a shit ton if you watch what goes on. Once you have enough experience study for your exam to become a Solicitor.

The long story short, is that you obviously first and foremost need to improve your immediate situation.

Sounds like you're dealing with some mental illness man. Being afraid to see a psychologist for fear of it hurting your future doesn't make sense because without treatment and a diagnosis of what you're dealing with you'll be lucky to continue treading water. Go see a psychiatrist and get a diagnosis. At least then you can move forward in the right direction. I'm a believer in meditation and I see a professional hypnotherapist who is also a licensed psychologist. When looking for a therapist make sure they're male and preferably older. Women have no idea what it's like to be a man. Best of luck.

Edit: Also lift and do yoga! Exercise is incredibly important when dealing with any mental illness.
