I am currently reading "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie.

In chapter 2, he talks about appreciation and how people crave it. He also tells a story about how the wife of a man wants him to list 6 things he would change about her to make her a better wife.

Instead of listing 6 things, he buys her 6 roses. All the women in wife's church love it and Carnegie talks about how great that is and uses it as an example of the power of appreciation.

Now, to me this doesn't make a lot of sense and it sounds really BP.

Another of his examples is a producer in Hollywood, who made unimportant chorus singer-girls into stars, by, what Carnegie calls "consideration and gallantry" (white knight much?).

I can't make sense of how this pairs with the TRP principle of being stoic.

Please give me your input about this, thanks.
