Cold approach at the gym is really a kind of dick move under most circumstances.

I typically cringe whenever I see the term "IOI" in a post/question, because IOIs are mostly some bullshit that the PUA coach douchebags invented to give the frustrated, socially awkward and/or autistic people a guidebook to follow so that they can charge you $50 for some e-book and lesson plan.

Read the situation. They came over for the mirror or the space or the background for their selfies and tiktoks, not to say hi to you. If they were engaging you, talking to you, flirting, etc., that's a go sign for you to respond... but if they just happened to make some brief eye contact with you, it wasn't an IOI, it was just to see how embarrassed they should be as some stranger watches them act stupid.
