In light of recent events on the UK, there has been a growing disdain for cold approach, specifically on the street. Personally, I've never been much for approaching someone on the street (I prefer locations like grocery stores, parks, coffee shops, concerts, bars, arcades, etc...), but I think a lot of the teachers of game still preach street game.
What can we do as cold approachers to make the people we approach feel comfortable and not harrassed? Meeting people you're interested in is a desire as old as time, I see nothing inherently wrong with it, but I also think in today's social climate it's important we adapt our approach to have empathy and make the other person feel comfortable.
Some Random Ideas:
Time Constraints: making the other party know you have somewhere to be in a few minutes and won't linger. Also generally aiming for shorter interactions when you're a beginner is probably a good tip. Instant dates are kinda trendy in the community, but if you are new to game, an instadate could lead to you just trapping the other person for an hour. Grabbing their number after 5 minutes of rapport building and saving the date for another time and venue might be the safer play. I'm not saying never instadate, I've had some good ones, but I've also had some terrible ones wher in hindsight it's clear the girl just hung around because she was too nervous to reject me. In general, I've found I've got more dates from girls I didn't instadate than girls I did.
Approach Less On The Streets: the streets just seem like a bad place to approach. People are there to go from point a to point b. There are dozens of better venues where people are more likely to have a minute to talk to you.
Giving Them Outs: basically offering an early conversation out for them. "If you're busy, I don't want to hold you up" or something of the like. Give them every opportunity to leave the interaction if they don't want to be there.
Studying Body Language: learn how to tell when someone isn't enjoying your company.
Don't Sarge, Make Approach Part of Your Routine: idk about you all, but when I sarge (go out specifically to game), I feel a little creepy. I think in general you'll come across more normal if you just approach as you live your life. Just make space in your life to live more publically (study at coffee shops, go to the grocery store a little more frequently, take more trips to the park, go out on weekends, do more volunteering, go to more events, etc...).
Any more ideas? I think making the other person feel safe and comfortable is essential to daygame and we all need to consider it carefully.
