This girl and I have been part of a friend group for about a year. We never hung out much but talked occasionally and it was pretty obvious we were curious about each other.

She's single, I know she's been dating around and hooking up with other guys but non exclusively.

She spontaneously invited me to hike with her one day, I invited her to a hike a second day. Neither were officially "dates" but they were romantic places and both times there was clearly flirtation and sexual tension, lots of physical contact but no kissing or hooking up. (She gave no signs or opportunity to actually kiss her during these two.)

We decide to go out for a third time, this time we end up straight up talking about sex and what we like. Get back to my place, make out for about 15 minutes, I start escalating and she gets second thoughts and says she wants to think on whether she wants to take it to the next level.

At this point, I want to detach if it's not going further. I know she's dating multiple people and hooking up with other dudes. I respect her choice, but the rejection the other night completely nuked the excitement and tension we had - especially knowing she's been on another date since then.

Problem is, she'll ask me to hang out again, I don't know if it's just "as friends" or if she's going to come back and decide she does want to hook up. She's told me straight up that she's attracted to me.

tldr; ended up on some unlabeled dates with a girl I know, sexual tension built, rejected after making out. She's dating multiple guys and definitely sleeping with them. How do I leave the opportunity on the table but not get strung along on future hangouts? Is it completely fumbled at this point anyway?
