A guy friend of mine married the devil.
When they first met she was super fit, obsessed with the gym, highly organized. He was the same, they got along like a house on fire and she really inspired him to grow up and be a man. She had her claws in DEEP. He’s tall and super handsome so I could see her being into him but as a woman I could see she was reeling him in like prey. Well… I found out recently he’s actually the heir to quote some wealth. We both had kids at the same time together and they were obsessed with their baby… it wasn’t until he was nearly two when I started to notice something off.
The kid was VILE to his father. Like psychotically mean. They hated each other. I realized the kid talked to him the way his mom was talking to him- identically the same. The kid had all rights. The dynamics were so fucked up, the father was essentially the child’s slave. He was treated worse than the family dog and the kid could see it. It wasn’t any of my business and I didn’t want to jump to conclusions so I wrote it off as a bad week.
My toddler despises her (and my friend). I asked what he didn’t like about her and he said “everything. Her hair, her face, how she talks.”
Fair. I think he didn’t like my friend because of how he lets her treat him. It made us all uncomfortable but she had a way of being heinous and then going back to what she was saying like it didn’t just happen. She’s very intense.
She’s a mega hypocrite. Perpetually online and watching TV at the same time. She’s had the same problems (which mop to buy!) since I met her. She’s on mop 400. Not just regular mops, expensive electric ones… speaking of which, she has EXPENSIVE taste but no class. My husband and I make significantly more than them and my jaw drops at how she spends their money despite never having worked in their relationship- she’s unemployable. She LOVES us and I was confused about why- same with their kid. We live in one state but come from another and their families are back on the east coast.
When we go on holidays with them I’ve heard her telling my friend he needs to be more of a fun dad like my husband… without realizing she’s not a fun mom.
My friend is a wreck. I haven’t seen him this depressed since high school. They have a second kid, she wasn’t to stay on the East coast because better weather and further from his mom… aka the cash source. In her head they put roots down in Southern California and
Recently we had them over and she did something dramatic and over the top like she normally does. Usually she crushes me or her husband or anyone else who may be around… this time she made my son feel shame. On top of that she ignored me completely when I asked for more information while she was doing it which was just a wild feeling. My husband and I were so uncomfortable.
I got stern with her, she later told me she didn’t appreciate me being stern about her parenting. She didn’t even notice that she made my kid feel like a flea. So I told her exactly what I saw go down and how she made him feel. I was kind of giving her a chance to apologize. No. She gave me a shit sandwich. (Sorry- but- sorry) If you make a kid feel shitty you just say sorry, that’s it. She made it out like she was trying to protect my kid from hers but I called her out and said if she was so worried about him she would have at least noticed how she hurt him.
ANYWAY- I’m here because I don’t know how to support my friend. He’s like a beaten wife. He takes her side every time, she won’t let him get counseling for his quite serious depression. He has no way out. Just this woman who believes her job as a human is to experience life to the fullest, she’s anti-work and anti-capitalist. Her mom praises her like she can do no wrong and she’s alienated him from all of his family and friends. I feel like if I mention something is wrong he’ll go into “protect her” mode. Im starting to feel like she’s keeping him here so family and friends won’t see his condition. I would love some advice. Do I play nice and stay by just in case? I’m really not into having her around our kids and our kids are always around.
