I've done a lot of lurking about this sub since that godforsaken man vs bear meme. I don't really agree with a lot of the material here that I find to be overly critical of feminism and making misandry seem more prevalent than it truly is, but I'm glad you guys have brought to my attention how statistics on domestic violence are much less lopsided along gender lines than many people believe. It's great that this sub exists where you all are able to share your stories free of judgment, and I admire those of you who are open about it, I can imagine it must be very difficult.

Reading some of the really horrific stories on here, especially realizing how police are likely to make things worse for male victims, has made me want to do some sort of informal volunteer work for a nonprofit organization dedicated to combatting the societal cancer of intimate partner violence (or domestic violence, is it the same thing I genuinely am not too sure?). However, I will only pick an organization that represents survivors regardless of gender, that condemns it all universally.

Is there any specific organization you would recommend? I live in South Jersey/Philadelphia area. What kind of work might they have me do if I volunteered?

One more thing: Is anyone here familiar with the "Safe at Home" foundation? It's run by Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Torre (note the name is actually also a baseball term), who himself witnessed his father be a wifebeater at a young age. I'm a Mets fan and there was a game where he was a guest on the radio sportscast and explained about the organization, this is how I found out. Does anyone here have an opinion on if it's got the right approach? However it seems to focus more on children being exposed to violence, so it's not quite the type of org I have in mind for volunteering. Though maybe someday I'll also try that kind. I also give credit to those of you on this sub who share stories of child abuse. None of you deserved it.
