It's all calculator driven... a quick google search found some. Assuming $40k is a legitimate earning potential (i.e. she's not an MD working at a grocery store for artificially low income), it should be straightforward in your case to calculate. It seems Michigan is open-ended for duration of alimony but you have a short-term marriage so a very good chance of not being permanent.

That said, you are asking very precise questions, most divorce lawyers will do a consult and if the facts are straightforward, you should get an idea in that consult as to what you expect. Make sure to choose a divorce lawyer who focuses on family law, not one who does "all the law". They'll know the demeanor of the judges best because they are in the room all the time especially in your case when a few key things are left open-ended in the law.
