I had my first experience into the nightlife on Ballard Avenue last night, and I had a terrible experience. I went to various bars but the ones that I spent the most time at were Kings and Kangaroos.
- First off, Ballard avenue was not crowded like everyone made it sounded. Just walking from the outside you would guess that there is nothing going on. I just meant that the streets were not crowded in the sense that you would see on Capital Hill. Of course when you went inside the bars itself it was crowded inside in a small space, but keep in mind these bars were very small area, especially kangaroos.
- I don't know if this is a Seattle thing, but I came across so many people saying things to me, I could not tell if they were deliberately making fun of me or saying a stupid joke, it gets hard to understand when the atmosphere is so noisy, almost felt like there is this passive aggressive jokes that its hard to tell, mostly from the men, even the bouncers. I had someone saying that I looked like a "real estate agent"? I was like what?? Another guy was saying he wanted to take a picture of my vest because he wanted to buy it on his own? I was like what??? could not tell if these people were mocking me or just clueless.
- Why are there so many married and taken women hanging around solo at these bars, and where are all the single women at? I approached so many women in the bars and a majority of them were saying they were married or had boyfriends. Are gone the days when single people go to bars to meet people organically? Why am I even at the bars if all the women there are taken, does not make sense to me. I tried capital hill before, and I ran into this same dilemma. As a single man how am I suppose to find someone here, this is insane!
The only places I have not tried yet are belltown and bellevue nightlife, but am I really missing out if I don't try those? I don't want to run into the same dilemma of me going out to the nightlife, and all I see are married or taken women everywhere, and no single women out and about. I also don't like the rudeness I had seen from the people here in general not being sure if they are passively aggressively making fun of my appearance.
