At this link, you'll find a great example of the consequences of speaking the (harsh) truth in public.
Ray Cote, president of the school board in some random town in New York, "was caught on video calling a PTA volunteer and mother of six a "chubby wubby" who "gets fatter and fatter at every meeting.""
The other mothers in the community rallied, and with the support of Lancelot's White Knights of the Round Table, succeeded in forcing his resignation.
Just another reminder that if you're in a position of power, you may easily fall victim to public scrutiny and backlash if you simply speak the truth. Granted, this guy's phraseology could have been significantly more mature, but the simple fact that he pointed out a true fact about the woman and got publicly castrated for it is the worst part.
Women cannot accept blame or consequence for their actions. Years of poor lifestyle choices when it comes to diet and exercise? Doesn't matter; no one can tell you what's staring them in the face (and you in the mirror) every time they see you.
This should be a reminder to all of us to make sure we don't fall victim in similar fashion. There are two traps to avoid. One, be vigilant in picking your battles. Plenty of commenters here and on RoK are quick to point out that the only way to see change is to begin resisting the waves of feminism, political correctness, etc. However, some advocate an almost heedless approach. It's absolutely necessary to resist, but it's wise to be tactical in that resistance. Machiavelli said it best in The Prince: there are no perfectly safe courses; prudence consists in choosing the least dangerous ones.
Two, let's continue to excoriate from ourselves the hamsterization trait this "chubby wubby" so evidently displayed: "It isn't my fault! He's not allowed to call me fat!" There are instances in our own lives where we are far too willing to lay blame elsewhere and refuse to accept our own weaknesses, mistakes, or inadequacies that hindered our success.
Ironically, I see this most often in responses to topics very much like these. Men come on and bemoan the plight of the white male. "I didn't get this job because female engineers had men do their homework all the way through college, then enjoy affirmative action during hiring!" "HR ruined my existence at work, and I didn't do anything to deserve it!"
Comments like these, though they have an element of truth, are simply a choice to limit your own power. Choose to beat any obstacle placed in front of you. Have the mindset that you can conquer whatever roadblock challenges you. Dedicate less mental energy to figuring out how unfair a situation is and more to identifying exactly which (if any) behaviors of yours contributed to your failure and how you can improve on them to succeed in the future.
Let's be wise in all our actions.
