Firstly, I want to say that it is a really great movie and one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. Although I put up a flair, I want to say it again that I am going to talk about a very intense scene in the movie which would be a spoiler, so you may skip this post if you want to watch the movie.

There are many scenes in the movie which can be extremely disturbing, but I am going to talk about only one of them because I feel it has to be talked about here.

The plot is: There is a couple whose baby falls off a balcony and passes away in the start of the movie. This incident causes the woman to go manic and the rest of the movie deals with her madness. She causes a lot of harm to the man in some scenes and even demands sex forcefully. In one such scene, she sits on top of the man who lies on his back and brutally smashes his penis with a big rock, causing him to bleed and pass out. It was a horrifying scene.

But my opinion is - was that scene really required? I know it was not glorified or justified in the movie, but still, why put a scene of a woman sexually assaulting a man amidst many already-gory scenes?

I mean, we have people talking about how female superheroes or other action-related characters had unnecessarily revealing costumes and were subtly sexualized needlessly. Then why does nobody talk about such scenes where a man is being assaulted like that?

I also recently saw another movie called Midsommar, which was also a great horror movie. (Spoiler alert) And in that movie too, we see the protagonist, who is a woman, rejoice at the end where her boyfriend who is not loyal is being killed. I know, adultery is obviously bad, but would it make sense if the characters were reversed? It would have been an controversy if it showed a man rejoicing something bad happening to his cheating girlfriend.
