Even before this modern gender discourse, men being compliment starved and absolutely struck dumb a woman would do it was a well known phenomenon.

Women simply don't compliment men. Even if its utterly innocuous.

"Women are afraid men will take it as flirting/a come on!!"

Ok, I understand that.

But maybe men wouldn't think that, if, gee, casual compliments were more common!?

But who I am kidding. Saying something nice to people is deemed criminal now anyway. If you're a man. It's either sexual harassment, cat calling, or creepy.

We've cultivated a culture where the sexes are afraid of each other in normal social settings.

Whenever I hear a compliment from a woman, I assume that she is going to ask for something.

That a woman would just randomly give a compliment without it being the prelude to an intrusive request is alien to my lived experience.

Women throw around genuine compliments and appreciation like they are manhole covers.

While there may be some trepidation on a woman's part to give a man a compliment due to it being misinterpreted as romantic interest, clearly this is not the case with brothers, father's, uncles, etc.

And yet, women compliment male family members just as infrequently as strangers.

The fact of the matter is that most women are just downright ungrateful and unappreciative of anything a man does, and they do not compliment men because women's standards are so ridiculously high that even the most exceptional men cannot reach them.

If men take compliments from women as romantic/sexual, it's because women only compliment men when they see them as (or want men to believe they are) romantic/sexual interest 🤦‍♂️

-Women: behave in a certain matter

-Men: accept it and adapt to it

How about just not giving unsolicited ''compliments'' to *people* you don't know well enough to be able to tell if they'll be uncomfortable or not.
