This is a vague, nonspecific field of study. Likely you will need to attend additional schooling after you graduate if you want to get a job that earns well and is in high demand. Find something more specific and more career-focused and save yourself a lot of time and money.

Also note that nobody is interested in paying you to have fun or enjoy yourself. Get that out of your head right now. The purpose of a job it to get paid to do somthing that you're good at and you can tolerate doing, so you can afford to do things you actually enjoy on your free time!

This kind of "follow your passion/calling/dream" feelgood bullshit is an absolute epidemic in the USA. The overwhelming majority of people never turn their hobbies and interests into a a profitable career. Every job is tedious and hard work for the most part. And if it isn't it will be after a few months of doing it for money.

The high-demand occupations in the UK are

----ICT(information & Computing Technology) "Java" the programming language, being the most common keyword on job requirments in this field. The amount of demand for people in this field is massive.

----Medical & Para-medical. Nurses, practicioners/doctors, and medical technicians (x-ray techs for example.)

----Engineering. The UK has a chronic shortage of engineers in almost all fields. Graduate with a B.S. in enigineering in any field you like, and you can almost pick your job of choice. Most companies offer some degree of paid on-the-job training.

----Accounting, Actuary, Finance. Many companies may accept your PPE degree to enter into jobs like this, provided you have some university-level math training along the way, e.g. calculus and statistics.

The demand for financial workers is such that many companies are willing to accept under-qualfied candidates from other fields and train them on-the-job. Also, even if you don't end up working in finance/accolunting long term, the skills you gain tranfer to a lot of other fields. Almost all types of companies have demand for people with finance skills.

----Construction and property. For example the highest paid high-demand jobs in construction are Quantity Surveyors and Estimators. Basically, the finance related jobs.

Do you have transfer options for if you perform highly at the 2nd tier school?

Can you do a post-grad (do you need to?) at the 1st tier school after completing the degree at the 2nd tier school?

If you are more sure that you definitely want to go into finance (stocks), then you should definitely major in finance instead of PPE.

PPE sounds like a good major if you are going to more school afterwards, even for an mba or something, but if you're looking to work right out of college PPE is not for you.
