Hi everyone, I got married in 2022 through the Jeevansathi matrimonial platform. Right after the marriage — even before our honeymoon — my wife asked for my father’s debit card, which I chose to ignore at the time. During the honeymoon, we had our first serious disagreement, mainly related to her elder sister who seemed to influence her decisions and our relationship dynamics heavily. After we returned, she quietly took all the gold jewellery and receipts from my parents without informing us. Despite this, I was actively helping her find a job, and eventually, she joined me in the city I live in after securing employment. She holds a postgraduate degree, and I’m a graduate from a rural background. Over time, she began to demean me for my education level and where I came from. It became emotionally exhausting. Within three months, I was dealing with regular taunts, emotional manipulation, and threats of false police complaints — all of which created immense mental stress. I also faced personal discomfort due to her poor hygiene, especially in the mornings (bad breath, plaque, and lack of basic cleanliness like not washing undergarments for days). Though this affected me deeply, I never confronted her about it. I handled most of the cooking and cleaning while she barely contributed. Despite trying to make the marriage work, things kept getting worse. After 11 months, a small argument escalated, and she filed a domestic violence complaint. I filed a counter-complaint with senior police officials. No formal summons ever came my way. For the next 15 months, she contacted me around 10–12 times, sometimes threatening, other times asking me to come and speak to her family elders. I agreed to meet only if she withdrew the complaint — which she never did. Recently, she filed a contested divorce petition citing false allegations of domestic violence and mental cruelty. I'm representing myself, as I have a strong understanding of legal writing, and so far, I've been managing the case well. Mediation has been completed and the case is now in the advanced stage. I’m reaching out to people here — especially those who’ve been through similar situations — for guidance on a few points: a) Should I even consider reconciliation? Despite everything, should I try to bring her back or is it wiser to let go? b) Is it normal to feel emotionally indifferent? We’ve lived separately for 2.5 years in the same city. I honestly feel okay even if she’s with someone else. Does that mean I’ve moved on, or is it emotional detachment from trauma? c) Age and mindset differences: She’s 1.5 years older than me but often lacks maturity. She frequently brings up concepts like patriarchy and male chauvinism — which I find out of place as I come from a defence background where equality and shared responsibilities are the norm. Any insight, advice, or shared experiences would really help me find clarity. Thank you for reading.
