Cardinal rule:

Does the person, place, thing or activity add value to your life? Is the person, place, thing or activity a net benefit or a net burden?

Measure a male friend, a plate, an LTR, a wife, a job, a pastime, a hobby, or an item, by this metric.

A man's got to have a line. Set boundaries and enforce them. It really depends on your own preferences and choice.

Maybe you tolerate getting physical with each other, or maybe one punch is an untenable sign of disrespect. Are ex-girlfriends fair game? Do you consider 'borrowed' cash to be a gift, or is it a loan that needs to be promptly recompensed?

Figure out your 'rules', articulate them clearly in the normal course of friendship, then terminate the relationship if those rules are broken.

The rules for nexting anyone, friend, plate, LTR, or FWB is the same, if this person is not contribute in a positive way to your life, then it's not worth it.

Personally,

I ask them what they do. If they dont workout, do a martial art etc. Something that requires focus, discipline and dedication. I dont keep them too close.
